Two nice things about enjoying Mt. Oyama, before you even get started, is the walk up the slope from the bus to the cable car, and then the cable car ride itself. The temples and shrines come after, once you go up the mountain. The slope is full of atmosphere, with tiny shops and restaurants, as well as much larger ryokan style inns, where you can stay overnight, or stop for lunch. Spinning tops, the cute official local mascot, and tofu are the specialties here. The view from the cable car and from the stations after getting off is magnificent.
