Zaimoku-za Shore is shallow for a good distance out and the tide is quite calm. It has been a popular bathing spot for more than 130 years. Stand-up paddle boarding and windsurfing are also popular. In 1232, a tiny island called Wagae-jima (the oldest harbor in Japan) was built here, and during low tide it is still visible. A large number of hermit crabs make their home here. The sunsets can be stunning! **This is the first of a 5-part series about the area between Kamakura and Enoshima along Route 134, where there are five beautiful shoreline spots, each with its own unique face.
