I love the colour of this shop. This kind of store represents the kind of things you would expect to find in Harajuku. (Photo: Michelle Madden)

Before coming to Fukuoka I did some research to see if I could find anything pertaining to a subcultural scene like the one in Harajuku. Walking around Tenjin I found a shopping mall that had the same kind of shops you find in Takeshita Dori. In fact some of the stores were actually part of a chain with shops in both Harajuku and Tenjin. This shopping mall has a huge selection of shoes and clothing and it could easily take you the whole day to see everything. This store is situated next to a similar mall called Tenjin Vivre. Now that I’ve found where all the cool kids buy their clothes, I just need to find out where they hang out to show off their latest threads.

This shop had a great selection of t-shirts including a Muhammad Ali t-shirt and an Andy Warhol one too. The prices were also quite reasonable. I found this shop on the top floor of the building. (Photo: Michelle Madden)
This is the Spinns super store on the top floor of Tenjin Core. There are two branches of Spinns in Harajuku. I was so suprised to find this shop all the way in Fukuoka. They had an excellent second hand clothing sale when I was there. (Photo: Michelle Madden)
I have seen many clothing shops in Japan recently celebrating the work of artist Keith Haring. Many of his artworks are available as printed t-shirts. Spinns is just one shop to sell Keith Haring merchandise. (Photo: Michelle Madden)

I found a shop selling yukatas (cotton kimonos) and related items rendered in cheerful colours. (Photo: Michelle Madden)
